 MARCQ-EN-BAROEUL
marcq en baroeul Marcq-en-Baroeul offers a breath of fresh air only a stone's throw from Lille. Many Northerners seek out its peace and calm to go walking, spend time or even more there. At its heart is its racecourse. Stretching over 30 hectares of land, it has become a place for walking and is a major venue for sporting events. It also hosts regional and national trade fairs such as the Salon des Antiquitaires (Antiques fair); The Fondation Prouvost nearby offers more options for day trips with its 18th century furnished château and its 60-hectare grounds, its sculptures by Dodeigne, Jean de Bologne and Paul Hémery and its crafts.
Septentrion in marcq-en-baroeul Le village des métiers d'art du Septentrion

The area of Vert Bois at Bondues stretches over 48 acres. Anne and Albert Prouvost created the foundation in 1975. The foundation has been transformed into a village of artists and craftsmen. They exhibit and sell their works (art gallery, antiquities, frame, cabinet-work...). There are restaurants, a tearoom and a bakery on site. The castle's 18th century interiors constitute a real museum of decorative arts, with furniture of outstanding quality, taste and charm.

Resistance Museum in Bondues The Resistance Museum

Here, the resistance is remembered and shown through local examples. On the 3rd of September 1944, after the departure of the German troops, 68 shot bodies of members of the Resistance were discovered at Bondues Fortress. The site is dedicated to the memory of these people who symbolise the fight for liberty. Young or old, every generation comes out of this visit aware of the consequences of intolerance and human conflict. A lively visit and a clear message from a museum that has a soul and that is remarkably well documented and furnished. Ex-members of the resistance sometimes come to commentate on the visit - an experience that can only make the tour even more authentic.
