Battlefields tour Ypres-Lille-Ypres |

 Some of the most important battles of the First World War took place around Ypres. This tour give you an overview of the Ypres Salient 1914-18. You will discover the main sites surrounding Ypres: battlefields in Messines aera, monuments, memorials, cemeteries... including Essex Farm cemetery (site of the creation of the poem, "In Flandrers Field", by John Mc Crae), Bozinghe (tranchees), Langemark (German cemetery), Tyne Cot cemetery (the largest and most impressive Commonwealth military cemetery). You'll also see the center of Ypres.
Every Saturday from April 3rd to December 11th 2010 (except July 31th, September 4th & 18th). Departure at 1.00 pm from the Lille Tourist Office, Place Rihour. Return at 5.00 pm. |

 Every Sunday from 4th April to 26th September 2010
A new remembrance tour to Fromelles and the Weppes area. The first stop is Fromelles, the site of the discovery of 6 mass graves holding the remains of some 250 Australian and British soldiers who fell during the terrible battle of 19 July 1916. The tour continues with a stop at the Australian memorial, then at the military cemeteries of "Trou aid Post" and "Pétillon Street". The tour also pays homage to the other countries that fought alongside the French and British troops, by stopping at the Portuguese cemetery of Richebourg and the La Couture Indian memorial. At La Bassée, the tour guide will touch upon the topic of post-war reconstruction. Finally, on the way back to Lille, she will point out the German cemeteries.
Duration: 3h30 Departure at 9.30 am from Lille Tourist Office (Place Rihour) or at 9.50 am from Fournes-en-Weppes Tourist Office (Place de l'Eglise). Commented in English and French. Price: 44€ per person. Booking is required at the Lille Tourist Office.
