L'Hospice d'Havré

The former Notre Dame des Anges monastery is a unique 17th and 18th Century architectural complex constructed around a cloister. The site receives exhibitions, reading workshops and shows. It includes landscaped gardens on the theme of water, medicinal and dye plants.

Villeneuve d'Ascq is a new town established in 1970, in which companies and laboratories have chosen to make their home. Nearby, rural activity continues. Many farms have been transformed into brasseries or museums, while two mills stand proudly on the skyline next to the grand stadium, host to the famous International Athletics Meeting.

Lille residents enjoy coming to Villeneuve d'Ascq as it is one of their favourite spots for walking and sporting activities, thanks to its Parc du Héron (110 hectares of parkland surrounding a series of lakes). It is the largest park area in Greater Lille.

Musée du Terroir

Housed in an 18th Century Square-style farm, the Rural Life Museum is devoted to 19th Century village life in and around the Mélantois region. A kitchen, a bedroom and craftsmen's workshops from the olden days have been reconstructed.

Mémorial Ascq 1944

The museum's collections pay tribute to the victims of the Ascq Massacre (April 1944). 86 people were shot to death by a SS convoy from the Russian front.

L'Hôpital Notre-Dame

Notre Dame Hospital.
Established in 1246 by Marguerite de Flandres, it is one of the oldest of the Nord region. It is characteristic of the evolution of hospital architecture from the 13th to the 14th century: chapel, hospital, square courtyard, and a very nice French-style garden.

Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions

Housed in a former Flemish farmstead dating from the 1890s, the Wattrelos Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions depicts the way of life of our forefathers (1850-1950) in the finest detail. Val de Deûle is located 7 km from Lille and 4 km from Belgium and offers a variety of tourist sites and tours: a guided tour of the Wambrechies distillery (a registered historic site), a visit of the Antique Doll and Toy Museum located in Robersart's Castle in Wambrechies, a tourist tramway along the Deûle river between Wambrechies and Marquette, boat or barge cruises on the Deûle river, strolls in Floral Park or along the Deûle river between Wambrechies and Deûlémont to discover the ports.

The Tourist Office, which is situated in the belfry in front of the Wambrechies church, is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 am to 12:30 am and from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm, and every Sunday and bank holiday from April 15th to October 15th from 2 pm to 7 pm.

Antique Doll and Toy Museum

Welcome to the world of childhood! Everybody on board for a "magic journey to the time of our ancestors".
Enchanting and sweetly nostalgic, this museum is a unique opportunity to discover a rich and unusual collection in the exceptional surroundings of the "Château de Robersart". Let yourself be guided from the old-fashioned and gentle charm of the late 19th Century porcelain dolls to the sixties feel of the first Barbies, then follow the route of the electic trains and Citroën cars. A green town.
Marcq-en -Baroeul offers a breath of fresh air only a stone's throw away from Lille. Many Northerners seek out its peace and calm to go walking, spend time or more. The racetrack is its heart. Streching over 30 hectares of land, it has become a place for walking and a major venue for sporting events. It also hosts Regional and National trade fairs, such as the Salon des Antiquitaires (Antiques fair). The Fondation Prouvost nearby offers more options for day trips, with its 18th Century furnished château and its 60-hectare grounds, sculptures by Dodeigne, Jean de Bologne and Paul Hémery as well as its crafts.

In the middle of a magnificent sculpture park surrounding an 18th Century château, the old white farm buildings provide plenty of interest for visitors. Tearooms rub shoulders with gourmet and local restaurants and the painter works alongside the potter, secondhand dealer, interior designers, wood gilder, and the baker, who gives breadmaking lessons to people of all ages.
The art gallery exhibits the work of talented artists.

The Resistance Museum

The Resistance Museum is located in an ancient fortified castle, built between 1878 and 1882, that was part of the fortification designed to protect Lille against a potential German attack.
Paradoxically, the fortified castle of Bondue served the German troops during both the First and the Second World War. Between March 1943 and May 1944, 68 French resistants were shot there. 
The purpose of this museum is to help visitors discover the journey of those who dared resist the Nazi occupiers through re-enactments, objects, documents, and four theme-based areas.

The Belfry

When arriving on the "Grand Place", you see the Town Hall which is an impressive building dominated by its Belfry, a UNESCO world heritage site. This work of art by local architect Louis Marie Cordonnier is in the Flemish Renaissance style.
